It’s that time of year when family and friends gather together to relax, reflect, and celebrate. We checked in with the One Floor Up crew to find out how they plan to spend their holiday season.
Both Daniel Witt (CTO, Technical Director & Founder) and Lauren Matsuda (Writer) have unique traditions around food. Daniel’s family always eats breakfast for dinner on Christmas Eve. Lauren’s Christmas Eve feast consists of a bucket of KFC!
“It’s really popular to eat KFC for Christmas in Japan”, Lauren elaborates, which is where her husband’s family is from. “People have to reserve their KFC meal months in advance.”
Alex Yorchak (Motion Design Editor) remembers a time when he received lottery scratch games as stocking stuffers from Santa. “No one ever won more than a couple bucks.” he recalls. Now that Alex has kids of his own, it seems unlikely that the big man will deliver any scratch games to them. Time to create a new tradition, I suppose.
Cody Hendrickson (3D Designer) shares that, “We used to go to our neighbor’s house for a party. He would light off fireworks. One year someone lit off a road flare. Pretty anticlimactic. And it got a good laugh from everyone. So, every year [after that] we would go down to our neighbor’s house and watch someone light a road flare!”.
However you plan to spend your holiday season, we hope that it brings nourishment to your body and soul, and a few good surprises and laughs along the way.
The One Floor Up crew sends our warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanzaa, and beautiful New Year!
